What is Nebivolol 5mg?

Nebivolol 5mg is a prescription beta-blocker tablet containing Nebivolol Hydrochloride 5mg, used to treat high blood pressure (ہائی بلڈ پریشر) and stable chronic heart failure. Nebivolol is a highly selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker that slows the heart rate, reduces the force of heart contractions, and widens blood vessels to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow. Unlike older beta-blockers, Nebivolol also promotes vasodilation through nitric oxide release, making it particularly well tolerated. It is used alone or alongside other medicines to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular complications.

What is Nebivolol 5mg Used For?

Hypertension: Treats high blood pressure in adults to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular events. Stable Chronic Heart Failure: Used alongside other heart failure therapies to manage mild to moderate stable heart failure, particularly in patients above 70 years of age. Cardiovascular Risk Reduction: Helps protect the heart and blood vessels by reducing cardiac workload and maintaining controlled blood pressure over time.

How Does Nebivolol 5mg Work?

Nebivolol selectively blocks beta-1 adrenergic receptors in the heart, reducing the effect of adrenaline on the heart muscle. This slows the heart rate and reduces the force of each heartbeat, lowering the amount of work the heart has to do. Nebivolol also stimulates the release of nitric oxide from blood vessel walls, causing vasodilation and further reducing blood pressure. This dual mechanism of cardiac slowing and blood vessel widening makes Nebivolol effective for both hypertension and heart failure management.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I stop taking Nebivolol 5mg if I feel better?

No. Never stop Nebivolol 5mg suddenly without consulting your doctor. Abrupt discontinuation of beta-blockers can cause a rebound increase in blood pressure, angina, or worsening heart failure. Your doctor will guide you on how to reduce the dose gradually if needed.

Does Nebivolol 5mg affect blood sugar levels?

Nebivolol may mask some symptoms of low blood sugar such as a fast heartbeat, making it harder for diabetic patients to recognise hypoglycaemia. Monitor your blood sugar more frequently when starting this medicine and inform your doctor if you notice unusual changes.
