What is Loprin 75mg Tablet? Loprin 75mg contains Aspirin (Acetylsalicylic Acid) at the low antiplatelet dose of 75mg — specifically formulated for long-term cardiovascular protection rather than pain relief. At this low dose Aspirin does not provide meaningful analgesic or anti-inflammatory effect — instead it irreversibly inhibits platelet aggregation, preventing dangerous blood clots from forming inside coronary and cerebral arteries. The enteric coating protects the stomach lining by preventing Aspirin dissolution in the stomach — releasing it instead in the small intestine where absorption occurs with significantly less direct gastric irritation. Loprin 75mg is a lifelong medicine for most patients — stopping suddenly in high-risk patients can trigger rebound platelet activation and significantly increase the risk of heart attack or stroke.

What is Loprin 75mg Used For?

  • Secondary prevention of heart attack — long-term protection in patients with established coronary artery disease (دل کے دورے کی روک تھام)
  • Secondary prevention of stroke and TIA — protection after transient ischaemic attack or ischaemic stroke (فالج کی روک تھام)
  • Post-coronary stent — keeping coronary stents open after angioplasty procedure
  • Peripheral artery disease — reducing cardiovascular event risk in patients with blocked leg arteries
  • Acute coronary syndrome — immediately after heart attack or unstable angina diagnosis
  • Atrial fibrillation — stroke prevention in selected patients under cardiologist supervision
  • Primary prevention — in very high cardiovascular risk patients as directed by cardiologist

How Does it Work? Aspirin irreversibly acetylates and permanently inhibits COX-1 enzyme in platelets — blocking thromboxane A2 production that normally triggers platelet aggregation and clumping. Since platelets have no nucleus and cannot synthesise new COX-1 enzyme, this inhibition lasts the entire 7 to 10-day lifespan of each platelet — making Aspirin's antiplatelet effect sustained and cumulative with daily dosing. At 75mg this antiplatelet effect is maximally achieved — higher doses add gastrointestinal risk without additional platelet inhibition benefit. By preventing platelet aggregation, Loprin reduces the formation of arterial thrombi that cause heart attacks and strokes in patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Dosage and Administration

⚠️ Never stop suddenly without cardiologist advice — particularly after coronary stent placement where abrupt stopping causes dangerous in-stent thrombosis. Always take with or after food despite enteric coating. Never combine with full-dose NSAIDs regularly — increases bleeding risk significantly. Avoid alcohol during treatment.

Indication Usual Adult Dose Frequency Notes
Secondary cardiovascular prevention 75mg Once daily Lifelong in most patients
Post-coronary stent 75mg Once daily Combined with Clopidogrel — dual antiplatelet therapy
Acute coronary syndrome 75mg Once daily After initial loading dose as prescribed
Peripheral artery disease 75mg Once daily Long-term under cardiologist supervision
Primary prevention — high risk 75mg Once daily Only if cardiologist specifically recommends

Active Ingredients

Ingredient Strength
Aspirin (Acetylsalicylic Acid) 75mg (Enteric-Coated)

Who Should NOT Take Loprin 75mg?

  • Allergy to Aspirin, Salicylates, or any NSAID
  • Active stomach ulcer or history of gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Aspirin-sensitive asthma — Aspirin-induced bronchospasm
  • Severe kidney or liver impairment
  • Haemophilia or other significant bleeding disorders
  • Pregnancy — particularly third trimester; strictly contraindicated
  • Children and adolescents under 16 years — risk of Reye's syndrome
  • Currently taking Methotrexate at doses above 15mg per week
  • Severe uncontrolled hypertension — bleeding risk outweighs benefit in uncontrolled BP

Side Effects

Common: Mild stomach discomfort despite enteric coating, mild nausea, mild heartburn — reduced by taking with food. Increased tendency to bruise or bleed longer from minor cuts — expected antiplatelet effect.

Serious — Stop and seek emergency help immediately: Gastrointestinal bleeding — dark tarry stools or vomiting blood (پیٹ سے خون — فوری مدد لیں), severe allergic reaction — sudden widespread rash, swelling of face or throat, difficulty breathing (فوری ہسپتال جائیں), aspirin-induced bronchospasm — sudden severe wheezing in sensitive patients, significant unexplained bruising or prolonged bleeding from minor cuts suggesting excessive antiplatelet effect, signs of haemorrhagic stroke — sudden severe headache with vomiting and confusion (فوری ہسپتال جائیں), severe stomach pain suggesting ulcer perforation.

Drug Interactions

Medicine Interaction
Clopidogrel / other antiplatelets Intentional combination for dual antiplatelet therapy post-stent — significantly increased bleeding risk; only under cardiologist supervision
Warfarin / other anticoagulants Greatly increased bleeding risk — triple therapy with two antiplatelets extremely high risk; specialist supervision essential
NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Diclofenac) Ibuprofen may block Aspirin's antiplatelet effect — take Aspirin at least 2 hours before Ibuprofen; increased gastrointestinal bleeding risk
Methotrexate Aspirin increases Methotrexate toxicity — avoid combination above 15mg weekly Methotrexate
ACE inhibitors / ARBs High-dose Aspirin may reduce their antihypertensive effectiveness — less significant at 75mg
SSRIs (Fluoxetine, Sertraline) Increased gastrointestinal bleeding risk with antiplatelet combination
Antidiabetic medicines Aspirin may enhance hypoglycaemic effect — monitor blood glucose
Uricosuric agents (Probenecid) Aspirin even at low dose reduces uric acid excretion — may worsen gout
Alcohol (شراب) Significantly increases gastrointestinal bleeding risk — avoid completely

Storage: Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep in original blister packaging. Keep out of reach of children (بچوں کی پہنچ سے دور رکھیں). Do not use after expiry date.

FAQs

Q: Can Loprin 75mg be stopped if I feel completely well and my heart tests are normal? Never stop without explicit cardiologist advice — particularly after coronary stent placement where stopping Aspirin even briefly causes life-threatening in-stent thrombosis. For other indications your cardiologist will assess the ongoing benefit-risk balance — never make this decision independently.

Q: Does Loprin 75mg provide pain relief like regular Aspirin tablets? No — the 75mg antiplatelet dose is far below the 300mg to 600mg doses required for pain relief. Loprin 75mg works exclusively through irreversible platelet inhibition for cardiovascular protection — it provides no meaningful analgesic or anti-inflammatory benefit at this dose.

Q: Can I take Ibuprofen for pain relief while on Loprin 75mg? Taking Ibuprofen regularly alongside Aspirin is problematic — Ibuprofen competes with Aspirin for COX-1 binding and can block Aspirin's antiplatelet effect if taken before it. If pain relief is needed take Loprin 75mg first then wait at least 2 hours before Ibuprofen — or preferably use Paracetamol which does not interfere with Aspirin's antiplatelet action.
