What is Entamizole DS 500mg/400mg?
Entamizole DS is a double-strength prescription combination tablet containing Metronidazole 500mg and Diloxanide Furoate 400mg — two medicines that work together to treat moderate to severe parasitic and bacterial gut infections (آنتوں اور جگر کے شدید انفیکشن کا علاج). Metronidazole kills active parasites and harmful bacteria throughout the body and gut tissues, while Diloxanide Furoate clears amoeba cysts lodged inside the intestine — together providing complete treatment and reducing the chance of the infection returning. A valid prescription from a doctor is required before use.
What is Entamizole DS Used For?
- Acute and Chronic Amoebiasis (پیچش) — gut infection caused by Entamoeba histolytica, producing severe diarrhoea, stomach cramps, and blood in stools
- Hepatic Amoebiasis (جگر کا انفیکشن) — amoeba infection that has spread to the liver, causing abscess and pain
- Giardiasis — small intestine infection by Giardia parasite causing bloating, loose stools, and cramps
- Bacterial Dysentery and Diarrhoea — severe diarrhoea caused by bacterial and protozoal infections of the digestive system
How Does Entamizole DS Work?
Metronidazole 500mg
penetrates parasite and bacterial cells and damages their DNA — stopping them from multiplying and killing them. It works both inside the gut and in body tissues such as the liver, making it effective for both intestinal and systemic infections.
Diloxanide Furoate 400mg
acts directly inside the bowel — targeting and eliminating amoeba cysts that remain after active parasites are cleared. Removing these cysts is essential to prevent the infection from returning.
Dosage and Administration

Always take with or after food to reduce nausea. Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve early — stopping too soon allows the infection to return.
Side Effects
Common: Metallic taste in mouth, nausea, stomach discomfort, headache, loss of appetite, mild dizziness.
Serious — stop immediately and consult your doctor if you notice: Seizures (fits), severe skin rash, numbness or tingling in hands or feet, dark urine, or swelling of the face or lips.
Important: Do not drink alcohol during treatment or for at least 48 hours after finishing — combining alcohol with Metronidazole causes severe nausea and vomiting.
Who Should NOT Use Entamizole DS?
- First trimester of pregnancy (first 3 months)
- Known allergy to Metronidazole, Diloxanide Furoate, or similar medicines
- Severe liver disease
- Children — only under doctor supervision with correct weight-based dosing
