Drug Class: Antispasmodic Agent | Form: Tablets | Prescription Status: Prescription-Only (Rx) — DRAP Registered
What is Colofac 135mg?
Colofac 135mg is a prescription tablet containing Mebeverine Hydrochloride 135mg — an antispasmodic medicine that works directly on the muscles of the gut wall to relieve painful cramps and spasms (آنتوں کی اینٹھن اور درد کا علاج). It is primarily used to treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) — a common condition causing recurring stomach pain, bloating, cramping, and unpredictable bowel habits. Unlike medicines that act on the whole body, Mebeverine works locally in the gut — relaxing overactive intestinal muscles without affecting normal bowel movement or causing sedation. A valid prescription from a doctor is required before use.
What is Colofac 135mg Used For?
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome — IBS (آنتوں کی تکلیف) — recurring stomach pain, cramping, bloating, diarrhoea, and constipation with no structural cause found
- Spastic Constipation — constipation caused by abnormal tightening of the bowel muscles rather than sluggish movement
- Chronic Irritable Colon — long-term bowel discomfort and unpredictable habits linked to gut muscle over-activity
- Mucous Colitis — gut inflammation and spasm producing mucus in the stool alongside abdominal pain
- Abdominal Pain and Cramping (پیٹ کا درد) — painful gut spasms associated with digestive disorders
- Bloating and Flatulence — uncomfortable gas and abdominal tightness related to bowel spasm
How Does Colofac 135mg Work?
Mebeverine Hydrochloride acts directly on the smooth muscle cells lining the wall of the intestine — reducing their sensitivity and preventing the excessive, painful contractions that cause IBS symptoms. It does this by blocking the movement of sodium into muscle cells, which reduces muscle over-activity and allows the gut to relax.
Importantly, Mebeverine is gut-selective — it works locally in the intestinal wall without affecting muscles elsewhere in the body and without entering the central nervous system. This means it relieves gut spasm effectively without causing drowsiness, dry mouth, or the side effects associated with older antispasmodic medicines. Normal bowel contractions needed for healthy digestion are preserved.
