What is Terbisil 125mg?

Terbisil 125mg is a prescription antifungal tablet containing Terbinafine Hydrochloride equivalent to 125mg of Terbinafine base, manufactured by Saffron Pharmaceuticals. It is used to treat fungal infections (فنگل انفیکشن) of the skin, hair, and nails caused by dermatophyte fungi and certain yeast organisms. Terbinafine belongs to the allylamine class of antifungals and works by actively killing the fungi responsible for the infection rather than simply stopping their growth. It is prescribed when topical antifungal treatment alone is not sufficient to clear the infection.

What is Terbisil 125mg Used For?

Nail Fungus (Onychomycosis): Treats toenail and fingernail infections that cause nails to become yellow, thickened, opaque, or brittle. Athlete's Foot (Tinea Pedis): Clears fungal infections affecting the skin between the toes, the sole, and sides of the foot. Ringworm (Tinea Corporis): Treats red, scaly, circular rashes on the body caused by dermatophyte fungi. Jock Itch (Tinea Cruris): Treats fungal infections of the groin and buttock area. Scalp Fungus (Tinea Capitis): Treats fungal infections of the scalp and hair follicles, particularly common in children. Yeast Infections: Effective against certain skin infections caused by Candida species.

How Does Terbisil 125mg Work?

Terbinafine Hydrochloride blocks the enzyme squalene epoxidase, which fungi need to produce ergosterol, an essential building block of their cell walls. Without ergosterol, the fungal cell membrane becomes damaged and the fungi die. Unlike antifungals that only suppress fungal growth, Terbinafine actively kills the organism, making it particularly effective for stubborn and deep-seated infections such as nail fungus that require complete eradication.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does Terbisil 125mg take to clear a nail infection?

Nail infections require longer treatment than skin infections. Fingernail infections typically need six weeks and toenail infections may require up to twelve weeks. Visible improvement in the nail appearance may take several additional months as the healthy nail grows back after treatment.

Is Terbisil 125mg the same as Cutis 125mg?

Both Terbisil 125mg and Cutis 125mg contain the same active ingredient, Terbinafine Hydrochloride 125mg, and work in the same way. The difference is the manufacturer. Your pharmacist can advise on availability and suitability based on your prescription.
