Drug Class: Oxazolidinone Antibiotic | Form: Intravenous (IV) Injection / Infusion | Prescription Status: Prescription-Only Medicine (POM) — Hospital Use
What is Nezkil 200mg Injection?
Nezkil 200mg Injection contains Linezolid — a powerful broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the oxazolidinone class. It is used in hospitals to treat serious bacterial infections that are resistant to commonly used antibiotics (مزاحم جراثیم کا علاج). Nezkil works by stopping bacteria from making the proteins they need to survive and multiply — killing the infection at its source. It is given directly into a vein (intravenously) and is strictly administered under the supervision of a doctor in a hospital or clinical setting.
What is Nezkil 200mg Injection Used For?
- MRSA Infections — treats skin, wound, and bloodstream infections caused by Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus — a bacteria resistant to most common antibiotics
- VRE Infections — effective against Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus infections including those affecting the blood and urinary tract
- Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia — treats serious lung infections acquired during hospital stays (پھیپھڑوں کا انفیکشن)
- Community-Acquired Pneumonia — manages severe pneumonia in patients requiring hospital-level treatment
- Complicated Skin and Soft Tissue Infections — treats deep skin infections, infected wounds, and diabetic foot infections caused by resistant bacteria
- Bacteraemia — treats bacterial infection in the bloodstream when caused by susceptible organisms
How Does Nezkil Work?
Linezolid inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to a specific site on the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria — blocking the formation of proteins essential for bacterial growth and reproduction. This mechanism is unique to the oxazolidinone class, which means Nezkil remains effective against many bacteria that have developed resistance to older antibiotics such as vancomycin and methicillin. It is active against a wide range of Gram-positive bacteria including MRSA and VRE.
Dosage and Administration
Nezkil 200mg Injection is administered by a trained healthcare professional in a hospital setting only. The usual adult dose is 600mg every 12 hours given as a slow intravenous infusion over 30 to 120 minutes. The duration of treatment depends on the type and severity of the infection — typically ranging from 10 to 28 days. Dose adjustments may be required for patients with kidney or liver impairment — your doctor will determine the correct regimen.
Active Ingredient
Linezolid 200mg per vial / infusion bag.
Who Should NOT Use Nezkil Injection?
Do not use if there is a known allergy to linezolid or any component of the formulation. Avoid use alongside or within 2 weeks of taking MAO inhibitors (MAOIs) — this combination can cause a dangerous rise in blood pressure. Use with caution in patients with uncontrolled high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid, or a history of seizures. Nezkil is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless the benefit clearly outweighs the risk — your doctor will decide.
Side Effects
Common: nausea, diarrhoea, headache, or mild changes in blood counts — your doctor will monitor blood tests during prolonged treatment.
Serious (requires immediate medical attention): signs of serotonin syndrome such as agitation, confusion, rapid heartbeat, and high temperature — signs of myelosuppression (bone marrow suppression) such as unusual bruising, bleeding, or persistent infection — and optic neuropathy (vision changes) with long-term use. Report any unusual symptoms to your doctor immediately.
Storage
Store between 15°C and 25°C — do not freeze. Protect from direct light. Store in the original packaging until use. Keep out of reach of children (بچوں کی پہنچ سے دور رکھیں).
