What is Monis 20mg?

Monis 20mg is a prescription tablet containing Isosorbide Mononitrate 20mg, a long-acting nitrate vasodilator used to prevent and manage chronic angina pectoris (سینے کا درد) caused by coronary artery disease. Unlike short-acting nitrates used to treat angina attacks as they happen, Monis 20mg is taken regularly to prevent chest pain from occurring in the first place. It works by relaxing and widening the blood vessels, reducing the workload on the heart, and improving blood flow to the heart muscle. It is also used alongside other medicines in the long-term management of heart failure.

What is Monis 20mg Used For?

Angina Prevention: Taken regularly to prevent episodes of chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart in patients with stable or chronic angina. Coronary Artery Disease: Helps manage symptoms in patients with narrowed coronary arteries by reducing the oxygen demand placed on the heart. Heart Failure Management: Used in combination with other heart medicines as part of a long-term treatment plan for chronic heart failure.

How Does Monis 20mg Work?

Isosorbide Mononitrate releases nitric oxide in the body, which relaxes the smooth muscle in blood vessel walls. This causes the veins and arteries to widen, reducing the amount of blood returning to the heart and lowering the pressure the heart has to pump against. The reduced workload decreases the heart's oxygen demand, preventing the imbalance between oxygen supply and demand that causes angina chest pain. The long-acting formulation maintains this effect throughout the day with regular dosing.

Who Should NOT Use Monis 20mg?

Do not use if you have severe low blood pressure, shock, acute heart attack with low blood pressure, or a known allergy to nitrates. This medicine must never be taken with phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors such as Sildenafil (Viagra) as the combination can cause a dangerous and potentially fatal drop in blood pressure. Tell your doctor if you have anaemia, glaucoma, or thyroid problems.

Side Effects

Common: Headache, flushing, dizziness, low blood pressure on standing, nausea. Serious (seek immediate help): Severe drop in blood pressure causing fainting, rapid or irregular heartbeat, severe allergic reaction including skin rash or difficulty breathing.

Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children (بچوں کی پہنچ سے دور رکھیں). Do not use after the expiry date. Keep the bottle tightly closed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I not take Monis 20mg doses equally spaced throughout the day?

Taking doses with an 8-hour gap and allowing a nitrate-free period overnight prevents nitrate tolerance, a condition where the body becomes less responsive to the medicine over time. Your doctor will advise the best timing schedule for your doses.

Can I stop taking Monis 20mg if I feel better?

No. Do not stop Monis 20mg without consulting your doctor. Stopping suddenly can trigger a rebound increase in angina episodes. Your doctor will advise how to reduce the dose gradually if treatment needs to be discontinued.
