What is Calamox 1g?

Calamox 1g is a prescription broad-spectrum antibiotic tablet containing Amoxicillin 875mg and Clavulanic Acid 125mg, manufactured by Bosch Pharmaceuticals. It is used to treat severe and stubborn bacterial infections (بیکٹیریل انفیکشن) of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, ears, sinuses, and bones. Amoxicillin kills bacteria by blocking their cell wall formation. Clavulanic Acid protects Amoxicillin from being broken down by beta-lactamase enzymes that resistant bacteria produce, extending its effectiveness against a broader range of organisms. Calamox 1g is the highest strength in the Calamox range and is reserved for more serious or resistant infections requiring stronger antibiotic cover.

What is Calamox 1g Used For?

Respiratory Tract Infections: Treats community-acquired pneumonia, acute bacterial sinusitis, and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis. Ear, Nose, and Throat Infections: Manages severe tonsillitis, sinusitis, and related upper respiratory bacterial infections. Urinary Tract Infections: Treats cystitis and pyelonephritis caused by susceptible bacteria. Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Manages cellulitis, infected animal bites, and skin abscesses caused by bacteria. Dental Infections: Treats severe dental abscesses with spreading infection. Bone and Joint Infections: Used for osteomyelitis and bacterial joint infections.

How Does Calamox 1g Work?

Amoxicillin belongs to the penicillin class of antibiotics and kills bacteria by binding to penicillin-binding proteins in the bacterial cell wall, preventing the bacteria from completing cell wall synthesis. Without an intact cell wall, bacteria cannot survive. Clavulanic Acid does not have significant antibiotic activity on its own but irreversibly inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes that resistant bacteria produce to destroy Amoxicillin. By protecting Amoxicillin from this degradation, Clavulanic Acid extends its effectiveness against resistant strains including beta-lactamase producing Staphylococcus, E. coli, and Haemophilus influenzae.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I take Calamox 1g with food?

Yes. Always take Calamox 1g at the start of a meal. Taking it with food reduces the risk of nausea and stomach upset, and also improves the absorption of Clavulanic Acid into the bloodstream.

Why must I complete the full course of Calamox 1g?

Stopping the antibiotic early, even when feeling better, allows surviving bacteria to recover and multiply. This increases the risk of the infection returning and contributes to antibiotic resistance. Always finish the full prescribed course as directed by your doctor.
